AU Background: Yukari Yakumo is an enigmatic being said to hail from the feylands. She has the power to move through space and generally displays a great deal of dominance over boundaries and gaps in reality. A skilled and powerful sorceress, Yukari is said to be quite old - older even than the rift and while her powers are somewhat suspect in form she is decidedly not a being of the Rift.
Yukari has appeared throughout Dagarian history, often aligning with Kingdoms or Factions that suit her purposes. This time, she has chosen to align herself with Rome.
It is said that Yukari is the stewardess of another world, locked away from that of mortals, although whether this is a fae realm or something else entirely remains to be seen.

Personality: Yukari is a mysterious and enigmatic being; one could call her the most “youkai” youkai in all of Gensokyo. Her actions are rarely explained and never apologized, and while outwardly she often seems to be acting out of laziness it is usually clear by the end of an incident that her aims had other goals.
Yukari is said to be quite capable of being “the hero or the villain” depending on her mood, though in actuality, it seems a bit more complex than that. While her behavior is often mysterious, more often than not the actions she take cause an end she desires, although not necessarily one desired by everyone around her. Even so, it usually ends in at the very least the restoration of peace in Gensokyo, so the implication is strong that Yukari’s actions almost always have Gensokyo’s best interests in mind.
Aside from being incredibly manipulative, Yukari is often shown to be lazy and indolent, sleeping a lot and consuming a great deal of tea and sake. Her power over boundaries both physical and metaphorical often allow her to take short cuts, she can teleport wherever she wishes and thus has little need to walk or fly, and can even pour herself sake without having to stand. Her Shikigami, Ran, is often the one charged with all the duties around her household, and she tends to punish Ran severely if her directives aren’t upheld.
Yukari is a woman with many connections and great power and influence. She is perfectly willing to assert any of these advantages whenever she feels it is necessary, but tends to be more of an observer, while she may take part in a situation she usually does so as a supporter at best, offering aid and not taking the spotlight for herself. Yukari is the maintainer of the Great Hakurei Border, and in her actions it is readily apparent that she has a great interest in maintaining it; she is certainly powerful enough to destroy Gensokyo if she wished, but she has no desire to do so, nor does she want to allow it to be destroyed. Ancient and ever-present, Yukari keeps things moving in the direction she wishes (and, most often, the direction beneficial to most involved parties), although she can be kind of a bitch about it.
Combat Style: Yukari rarely ever seems to be fighting seriously, and when she does fight she utilizes elaborate patterns of magical bullets that are extremely difficult (but not impossible) to dodge, utilizing her ability to gap through space to attack from odd angles and confound her opponent. She can also utilize her magic to fly, and can generally teleport at will.
